The Transportation Division has been busy working towards implementing some of the prioritized projects identified in the City of Cupertino 2016 Bicycle Transportation Plan that was adopted by City Council in June 2016. Below provides a brief status summary of these projects. For more information, please visit www.cupertino.org/bikeplan.

BICYCLE BOULEVARD PROJECT

Since September, the City has been conducting small neighborhood workshops within the bike boulevard neighborhoods to hear from residents living along and near the proposed bike boulevard routes. As of December 14, 2017, the City completed its seventh and last neighborhood workshop. Participants at each workshop met with City staff and provided feedback, which will be used to re-evaluate the proposed bike boulevard conceptual designs for each neighborhood. The City plans to present this to City Council as a study session in February 2018.

JUNIPERO SERRA TRAIL PROJECT

The City is working with Callander Associates Landscape Architecture to prepare and deliver a feasibility study for the proposed Junipero Serra Trail, an off-street bicycle and pedestrian facility that would provide a crosstown east-west connection between the Don Burnett Bicycle-Pedestrian Bridge and Vallco Parkway, along the existing Junipero Serra Channel south of and parallel to Interstate 280.

The first public meeting was held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 to introduce the project to the community. Approximately 30 people signed into the event, all of whom were invited to provide feedback to City staff and project consultants during the event through one-on-one discussions and by submitting written comments on the meeting materials that were distributed and displayed at the event. The meeting materials and summary memo are available to view and download on the project webpage. Conceptual development of the trail will begin based on the comments received by the community. Alternative alignment plans are scheduled to be available for public review at the following upcoming public meetings:

Public Meeting #2a: Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Quinlan Community Center (10185 N Stelling Rd) in the Cupertino Room

Public Meeting #2b: Monday, February 26, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Cupertino Community Hall (10350 Torre Ave)

REGNART CREEK TRAIL PROJECT

The City is working with HMH Engineers to prepare and deliver a feasibility study for the proposed Regnart Creek Trail, an off-street bicycle and pedestrian facility that would provide a connection between Pacifica Drive and Creekside Park, along Regnart Creek.

A walkshop was held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 to introduce the project to the community and to give residents an opportunity to walk a portion of the proposed trail escorted by City staff and project consultants. Approximately 60 people signed into the event, all of whom were invited to provide feedback to staff during the event and by submitting comment cards that were distributed at the event. The walkshop display boards and summary memo are available to view and download on the project webpage.

For those who were unable to attend the November walkshop or who would like to provide additional feedback, the City will be conducting a second public meeting on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Cupertino Community Hall (10350 Torre Ave). The meeting will be an open house format where participants can arrive at any time during the event window and have one-on-one discussions with City staff and project consultants.
